Ascent Flight Training

Ascent has been a trusted provider of innovative training systems since 2008. We design and deliver world-class, bespoke training for the armed services, through the UK Military Flight Training Services (UKMFTS).

Who are we

A joint venture between Lockheed Martin and Babcock International, Ascent employs 420+ staff across six UK sites, designing, developing and delivering training, technology products and technical services. We pride ourselves on our strong partnerships and understanding of our customers’ needs, offering bespoke turnkey training solutions that generate mission-ready teams, through our unique blend of live and synthetic training.

What we do

Ascent trains UK Armed Forces’ fast jet, multi-engine and rotary wing pilots and rear-crew/mission aircrew, through elementary, basic and advanced flying training.

We currently operate a fleet of 110 aircraft and over 100 simulators at our modern training centres, delivering more than 500 next generation combat leaders to FTUs/OCUs annually, in addition to over 100 instructor qualification upgrades.

Across all UKMFTS pipelines, Ascent continues to invest for the future, and a significant amount of our focus is on the digital transformation of the system. We also continue to push the boundaries of training and are working with the MOD to explore the potential of new capabilities such as augmented and virtual reality.

Why We Support

At Ascent we are proud of our expanding diversity, inclusion and belonging strategy and value and listen to all voices within our organisation.

While many of our people have military backgrounds that provide specialist knowledge and expertise, we also boast an impressive blend of highly motivated people with a mix of skills and levels of experience. What we all share, is a continuous commitment and passion to deliver our One Team mission.

We continue to work hard to improve our gender balance within a challenging environment. By partnering with organisations such as WED, we are committed to changing the perception that defence organisations are male dominated, because we know that women deserve equal representation.

We are excited to be Bronze Sponsors for WED and look forward to working together on initiatives to break down biases and provide improved opportunities for women. We are also engaged with the Aspire for Equality Programme, where many of our female employees continue to hone their amazing skills, and have been recognised as a top 100 employer of veterans.
